Steven McFarlane
Northwestern University 2000
Bachelor of Arts, Latin American History
Northwestern University 2005
Juris Doctor, cum laude
Admitted to the State Bar of California
Steve focuses his practice in the areas of probate and and trust administration, trust litigation, estate planning and small business advising. In each area of law, he works closely with his clients to understand their needs and helps them weigh the risks and benefits of any strategy or approach. His focus is on accomplishing the client's goal in the most efficient and effective way possible. While he now focuses on estate and trust matters, his past experience in business and real estate law help him identify and solve crossover problems between these areas.
Prior to moving to Nevada County and opening Hendricks McFarlane in 2013, Steve practiced law in the Bay Area. He started his legal career as a civil litigator with the law firm of Bowles & Verna, LLP, in Walnut Creek, California. In 2011, Steve opened his own law office in Alameda, California, handling litigation, business advice, and estate planning.
Steve volunteers with a variety of local non-profit organizations and provides direct legal services to the community. He is currently the president of the Nevada County Bar Association and donates his time to provide pro bono services through the Nevada County Library's "Lawyers in the Library" program and other local nonprofits. He has previously served as a member of the California State Bar's Committee on the Administration of Justice, and as a director with several nonprofit organizations. He has presented numerous MCLE and other legal education programs to both attorneys and the public, covering topics from estate planning to civil appeals.
