Steve has broad experience in the areas of start-up and small business advising, estate planning and administration, and litigation. In each area of law, he works closely with his clients to understand their needs and to help them weigh the risks and benefits of any business plan or litigation strategy available to them. His litigation practice includes probate and trust litigation, contract and business disputes, corporate and employment matters. His expertise in business advising includes entity formation, corporate governance, contract negotiations, employer compliance, and trademarks. Steve also has extensive experience representing trustees, executors, and beneficiaries in trust administration and probates, as well as litigation disputes that arise from those matters.
Prior to moving to Nevada County and opening Hendricks McFarlane in 2013, Steve practiced law in the Bay Area. He started his legal career as a civil, real estate and probate litigator with the law firm of Bowles & Verna, LLP, in Walnut Creek, California. After leaving that firm in 2011, Steve opened his own law office in Alameda, California, handling litigation, business, and estate and trust matters.
Steve volunteers with a variety of local non-profit organizations and provides direct pro bono legal services to the community. He is currently the treasurer of the Nevada County Bar Association and donates his time to provide pro bono services through the Nevada County Library's "Lawyers in the Library" program and other local nonprofits. He has previously served as a member of the California State Bar's Committee on the Administration of Justice. He has presented numerous MCLE and other legal education programs to both attorneys and the public, covering topics from estate planning to civil appeals.

Dylan's practice focuses on estate planning, trust and probate administration, conservatorships, and charitable advising. Dylan has prepared individualized estate plans for clients with a range of needs including probate avoidance, tax planning, business transfer planning, arrangements for minor children, planning for end of life and catastrophic injury, medi-CAL and and a variety of other concerns. Her experience extends from basic wills and trusts to complex charitable plans targeted to helping clients meet their personal and family objectives. Her charitable experience extends from initial set-up through ongoing organizational management including 501(c)(3) formation, board policy, and gift acceptance and use.
Dylan is a member of the Trust and Estates Section of the California Bar Association, the Nevada County Bar Association, Soroptimist of the Sierra Foothills, the Board of Directors of the Center for Nonprofit Leadership, and is current President of the Gold Country Cal Alumni Association Board of Directors. She frequently consults with local not for profit organizations on issues related to fundraising and governance.
